Mike Atkin began his tenure with Flagstaff Design & Construction in April 1978 as a concrete and masonry laborer. In his almost thirty years with Flagstaff Design & Construction, he has steadily worked his way up through the ranks as a Journeyman, Foreman, Draftsman, Project Superintendent, Project Manager, and he is now the Vice President and he assumes all presidential duties in the absence of the President. His experience in many crafts has proven helpful in supervising and managing the work of subcontractors in all trades. Mike received professional registration in 2004 as a Certified Professional Constructor (CPC) through the American Institute of Constructors (AIC). In 2007, he became a LEED Accredited Professional through the United States Green Building Council. He prepared for advancement and the executive position he now holds by taking courses at Northern Arizona University, Yavapai Community College, and Coconino Community College, maintaining a 4.0 GPA. His coursework has included: Supervision, Construction Management, Estimating, Business Law, Architectural Drafting, and several other construction-related courses. He has also attended dozens of seminars relating to construction management topics. Mike is particularly well informed in the areas of contract and construction law, and he handles all internal contract and legal matters. This knowledge, and the company's commitment to ethical business dealings has served well to avoid legal disputes and court action. On design-build and construction manager at risk projects, Mike works as the liaison between the Owner and the Architect, tracking the costs of construction for the team, and assisting in design development. His varied construction experience assists in integration of various systems and working toward the constructability and efficiency of the entire project. His duties as Vice President include all pre-construction services, estimating, tracking profitability though job completion, and matters of corporate finance. He also handles business development, monitoring changes in the regional construction market and positioning the company for growth in selected areas.
